Explanation

We try to convert a 2D image into a 3D one. We interpret the black lines as being drawn in perspective, sort of like a wall going off into the distance. The lines would have to be parallel to do that. Our mind then adjusts the lengths of the red lines, seeing the one as being closer and the other as being further away.
